HERE ARE MY FAVORITE TIPS FOR HOW TO DECLUTTER YOUR HOME!
1. SPEND 20 MINUTES EACH DAY ON ONE TASK
If you’re clean as you go type then this is for you. Spend 20 minutes a day on one task. For example, task Monday with clearing off surfaces and organizing papers into piles. Tuesday can be spent organizing the piles and filing things away. Wednesday can be spent wiping down surfaces of one room that needs it most. Thursday can be spent vacuuming two rooms that need it most. etc. By breaking it down little by little, the larger tasks don’t tend to creep up on you so you end up spending two days deep cleaning.
2. GO ROOM BY ROOM
For example, task every Saturday (or whichever day works best for your schedule) in February for spending a few hours going through and removing unnecessary items in the room that need it most then spend a few hours every Saturday in March deep cleaning that room. By breaking it up into a room by room it’s less daunting to think about than knowing the entire house needs a deep clean.
3. CLEAR OUT YOUR CLOSET
Tie a ribbon at the beginning of your closet rod and after you wear something to move it in front of the ribbon. Try to see how many outfits you can create with the clothes behind the ribbon. If at the end of the year you have clothes left behind the ribbon, it’s time to donate!
If you’re the type of person that loves to just tackle a project all at once, then schedule a weekend in your calendar to do just that. Take inspiration from the tips above and get it all done and out of the way at once.
