Whether you’re a wine aficionado or an enthusiastic amateur, custom wine cellars are one of the hottest trends in luxury homes today. No longer are at-home wine cellars tucked-away places that only staff visits. In fact, wine cellars have become the hub of entertaining, combining luxurious design aesthetics with ingenious storage solutions.
There are so many styles a homeowner can embrace, from contemporary designs with crisp, clean lines, to comfy, club like game rooms where the wine surrounds upscale pool tables and other sporting paraphernalia. Brick or stone can add a rustic ambiance, while a wooden tasting table with stools for guests is an ideal spot for a party to sample your best vintages.
Whatever style they choose, homeowners must fill their custom cellars with the nectar of the gods. It appears that wine lovers will stop at nothing for their favorite vintage.
Sotheby’s September Wine sale in New York exceeded expectations, totaling $2 million. The sale included fine varietals such as 24 half bottles of Château Haut Brion, 1989, highly sought after blue chip Bordeaux from legendary vintages such as 1982 and 1989, and a case of Château Lafite, 1982 that sold for $43,750. The focus now is on the Sotheby’s Wine sale later this month in Asia featuring more of the finest and rarest wines.
