DID YOU KNOW THAT WALLPAPER IS BACK IN STYLE?

From traditional and classic to bold and graphic, wallpaper is back in style. It can transform a room while defining a real sense of style. The bottom line: contemporary wallpaper can set the mood.

According to leading interior designers, painted finishes might be great in some spaces, but they don’t equate to the luxury and opulence that a few rolls of wallpaper can provide. Here’s a peek at what some experts are loving about wallpaper today.

“Designers and their clients are looking for ways to import the wow factor,” explains Cadee Wilder of Kreme. “This pattern, Painted Gale, is an updated take on Moroccan-inspired designs. Play up the theme,” Wilder suggests, “or take a less literal approach and play up the modernity of its larger-scale pattern.

Wallpaper can add an air of coziness to an oversized room or high-ceiling foyer by giving the space a more intimate feel.

“Divide the space by half by applying wallpaper to the bottom half,” explains Melissa Guiley of Melissa Gulley Interior. In this master bedroom, the designer added crown molding as well, making the space seem a bit smaller and much cozier.

Wilder also comments on the use of digital printing in wallpaper. Designers and their clients no longer have to rely solely on the hand-printed wallpaper versions of yesterday.

“It’s a very tricky screen-printing style that is easily achieved with modern techniques,” Wilder explains.

Today’s wallpaper can add warmth while creating a rich, layered, sophisticated look. It can also make a small area seem larger while creating visual energy. Just because wallpaper is back in style, however, it is not the right choice for everyone’s taste. The bottom line is homeowners and their designers must decide for themselves.
