The sport of boxing has entered the ring of pure luxury, thanks to socialite and fashion designer extraordinaire Karl Largerfield. The blurring of the worlds between luxury fashion and sports has been going on for some time now, so this Louis Vuitton luxury punching bag doesn’t come that much of a surprise.
Even so, when I saw that the creator of all things Louis Vuitton has designed a limited edition punching bag, I had to find out more. The one-of-a-kind punching bag featuring the distinctive Louis Vuitton monograms, is part of the brand’s Celebrating Monogram project and its 118th year anniversary. The luxury punching bag really packs a punch, coming as a complete package with a pair of LV boxing gloves, a LV mat, and a LV travelling trunk with stand.
New York Times Magazine estimated that the whole luxury boxing set is worth somewhere around $175,000, but that initial estimate could be way off the mark. The price for the set might be much, much, higher. The official Louis Vuitton site states that it is “Price Upon Request.”
Other unique items in the Celebrating Monogram project include a Frank Gehry $4400 Twisted Box (a “sculptural” handbag) and Christian Loubotin’s $23,000 shopping trolley.
With the increasing popularity of boxing as a workout routine for models in the fashion industry, luxury boxing gear is something that we can expect to see more of in the future.
