SONOMA VALLEY DOG FRIENDLY WINERIES

That’s right; Sonoma Valley goes to the dogs…as in dog friendly wineries. This paradise features a plethora of places to go and things to do for dogs and their guardians. Perhaps one of the most exciting things to do with your dog in this part of the world is wine tasting.

That’s right; Sonoma Valley goes to the dogs…as in dog friendly wineries. This paradise features a plethora of places to go and things to do for dogs and their guardians. Perhaps one of the most exciting things to do with your dog in this part of the world is wine tasting. After all, what’s a sip of Syrah without your best friend by your side? Today, dog in Sonoma Valley vineyardmore local wineries are inviting four-legged friends into the tasting rooms. Here are three my favorites:

Mutt Lynch Winery Perhaps the ultimate dog friendly winery is Mutt Lynch. With labels featuring dog art, a portion of all sales going to local animal rescue organizations and events like Yappy Hours and the annual Dog Days of Summer gala, this winery invites canine and human guests into the tasting room and throughout the grounds. Would you expect anything less from a winery with the slogan “Bark Less, Wag More?” My favorites: Unleashed Chardonnay, Merlot Over and Play Dead, Hell Hound red blend.

Kunde Family Estate Winery  Besides allowing you to bring your dog into this winery, Kunde Family Estate also holds dedicated dog hikes on moderately strenuous trails across the 1,850-acre Kenwood estate. You and your pet can take in breathtaking, panoramic views of Sonoma Valley while learning about Kunde’s sustainable wine growing practices. If you decide to stay for lunch, a percentage of your bill will be donated to Canine Companions and the Sonoma County Humane Society. My favorites: Merlot, Red Dirt blend, Reserve Century Vines Zinfandel.

Truett Hurst This upscale ranch-like winery spans five acres of lush heirloom fruit, vegetable, and flower gardens, a creek running with Coho salmon and Steelhead trout, mature olive trees, and goats and sheep. An awesome place to spend the afternoon with your pup. My favorites: Salmon Run Rosé, Bluebird Sauvignon Blanc, White Sheep Pinot Noir.
