Best Breweries in Napa Valley

Napa Valley is known as an international wine mecca, but you shouldn’t discount its beer selections. Here are three breweries you’ll want to check out when you need a break from grapes

Napa Valley Brewing Company at the Calistoga Inn

Located in the quaint spa town of Calistoga, the Calistoga Inn offers chic and cozy accommodations as well as convenient access to Napa, Sonoma, and Lake County. After a day spent exploring the vineyards, biking along the Pacific Coast, or hiking Mt. St. Helena, head back to Calistoga Inn to unwind with a drink in the alfresco beer garden.

Founded in 1987, the Napa Valley Brewing Company was the first commercial brewery opened in the county since the end of Prohibition in the 1930s. The company produces around 400 barrels of beer a year and offers five main varieties: Calistoga Red Ale, West Coast IPA, Blue Collar Porter, American Wheat Ale, and Palisades Pilsner. Brewery tours with the brewmaster are available Monday through Friday. You can also sip a cold beer while enjoying weekly open mic nights and dancing.

Fieldwork Brewing

Founded in Berkley, Fieldwork Brewing is a craft brewery that has since expanded to multiple locations across the Golden State from Monterey to Sacramento to Napa. Nestled within the Oxford Public Market, the Napa outpost features an industrial setting and a wide selection of beers. Current selections include farmhouse ales, IPAs, and German Pilsners. Its ever-changing tap list of new releases can be tried by sampler flight, by the glass, or in go-to growlers and Crowler cans.

St. Clair Brown Winery & Brewery

Located in Napa and helmed by longtime friends Winemaker/Brewmaster Elaine St. Clair and President Laina Brown, St. Clair Brown Winery & Brewery is an urban winery and nano-brewery. After taking a tour of the brewery, guests can relax in the culinary garden while sipping on an array of mostly vegan beers, such as Belgian Ale, Black IPA, or Oatmeal Stout.
