Calistoga Spotlight

Located at the northern end of the Napa Valley, Calistoga offers a more quaint, earthy and down-home version of wine country, mixed with it’s own special flare of luxury and specialty.

Arguably one of the most famous attractions in Calistoga, the natural hot springs have given local spas their reputations for relaxation and restoration. The mineral pools and geothermal waters, which are often filtered into the local resorts, allow visitors in the area to soak without having to sacrifice the luxury of a spa, and what better way to enjoy the warm summer weather, than from within these healing waters? The local mud baths are also one of the areas most renowned spa treatments and are an especially great way to moisten and refresh dry summertime skin.

However, if you just want to experience these mystic waters without actually getting wet, then Calistoga’s very own Old Faithful is the place to visit. The geyser here erupts every 30-40 minutes and has even been known to produce a brilliant rainbow through its refractions. Admission to the geyser includes access to a picnic area complete with plates, silverware, and wine glasses, as well as the company of some of the local farm animals, like goats and llamas, making it a perfect family-friendly summer spot.

Downtown Calistoga is filled with local culture and charm, and it’s part of what makes this wine country destination so special. From the vintage/western inspired architecture, to the quaint mom-&-pop shops, Calistoga is picturesque wine country at its finest, and the community is constantly buzzing with seasonal events.

This summer, join Copperfield’s Books in a scavenger hunt to find Waldo throughout Calistoga businesses, hear some tunes with the Calistoga Inn summer concert series and at one of the seasonal concerts in the park, or try some Saturday Sunrise Tai Chi.

But let’s not forget that Calistoga is still in wine country, and that means that wine is still at the forefront of our minds. Stop in to Tank Garage Winery for a Summertime Speakeasy at this vintage inspired garage winery, which features live music for this recurring summertime event. Or tour the organically farmed vineyards at the small, family owned winery of Dutch Henry, and enjoy organic local wines, with organic local style. Vincent Arroyo is another winery in the area that combines these local wines with the local people who make it. The owner/winemaker is often there and is usually happy to sign bottles for visitors, adding an extra flavor of Calistoga charm to this experience.

And, don’t forget, to Ride the Vine, with the on-demand Calistoga shuttle service that can zip you throughout the area and be your very own D.D. for wine tasting!
